Sylvania, Ohio—The Premier League of America season came to an end this past Sunday when Bavarian SC won their second straight PLA championship with a 5-2 win over Carpathia FC. Toledo Villa finished in 4th place following their 1-1 draw with Muskegon Risers and in combination with a 6-2 win by Carpathia over Oakland County. Despite missing out on the playoffs there were many bright spots for Toledo Villa over the course of the season. One of those spots is the winner of Villa’s Men’s Player of the year brought to you by Buffalo Wild Wings.
This player provided a spark in the early part of the season to propel the team toward a strong finish. He was tied for the team lead with 4 goals and additionally provided 5 assists. He also had 3 goals in our early season friendly against Dayton Dynamo. That’s right, this year’s player of the year is none other than Bowling Green Standout Robert Miller III.
Miller said it was an honor to be given the award, but for him it was more about having a wonderful experience with coach Charlie Edwards and the rest of the team. He credits the culture surrounding Toledo Villa for him feeling comfortable on the field since day one. Rob told me his favorite moment of the year was of course his hat trick in the 5-0 win against Dayton.
“Throughout the season we really started to be successful as a unit and team which meant we weren’t reliant on any individual player to get results” Rob said in response to me asking about his role in the development of the team. He also credits Coach Edwards for keeping the team working hard and reminding them to stay humble even after a victory.
Robert is headed into his sophomore season at Bowling Green State University. He plans to continue his education while continuing to play soccer. Rob is excited at the prospect of returning to the Villa next season and continuing his soccer career.
Congratulations again to this year’s Buffalo Wild Wings Male Player of the Year Robert Miller III!
